Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is Uganda’s smallest park, but also one of the most spectacular!

This small but very beautiful park, covering just 38 sq km, enjoys a magnificent settings on the northern slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes. Two rare primates are found here, the Mountain Gorilla and the Golden Monkey. Best of all these can be tracked whilst doing a spot of birding so it’s a win win for anyone wanting to combine the two activities. Once you’ve climbed the dormant volcanoes you’ll get the chance to stand simultaneously on the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. This park offers a unique Batwa Forest birding experience with some incredible highlights including Rwenzori Turaco, African Hill Babbler, Kivu Thrush, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, Dusky’s Crimsonwing, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Chubs Cisticola, Mountain Buzzard, Regal Sunbird and the gorgeous Blue-headed Sunbird.
