Close to the capital, Lake Mburo National Park usually serves for people who don’t have much time and want to go on safari. However, what most people don’t know, is it’s also one of Uganda’s best birding parks -a birding tour in Lake Mburo National Park is a must! 

Over 310 bird species have been recorded at Lake Mburo National Park. The park is the best place in Uganda for acacia-dwelling birds. Forest species are also present in Rubanga Forest. A bonus for birders is the swamps, in which six papyrus endemics are resident, including the spectacular Papyrus Gonolek and the Blue-headed Coucal. Lake Mburo is also a place to find southern species at the northern limit of their range, including the Black-collared Barbet and our mascot the Southern Ground-hornbill. Migratory are also birds are present from November to April, which makes for a very nice count.
