This tour of Kenya has been carefully designed to allow you to enjoy some of Kenya’s best birding locations over a period of 8 days
Loaded with national and regional gems, this tour will engage you in a birding experience of a lifetime. The locations and destinations have been carefully selected to give you an opportunity to see some of Kenya’s best mammal and birding parks that are filled with nature’s wonders. From soda lakes to fresh water wetlands – to high altitude and low altitude grasslands, bush and standard savannah to ancient woodland habitats – you will see incredible birdlife as well as other taxa of animals and plants. Big game will be encountered in plenty, including many rare and unique species. This tour has the intention of making you fall in love with Kenya just like we all have – a truly once in a lifetime birding experience that will leave your heart in Africa!
Brief Tour Itinerary
Day 1 & 2 – Masai Mara National Reserve
We kick-off our first day of the tour en route the Masai Mara National Reserve. Described by many as the top park in not only Africa but the world. This reserve has so much to offer! From the African Big Five, the Wildebeest Migration and of course, the incredible birdlife – it truly is a nature lover’s dream. Birding will be busy with several transects across this vast savannah. We’ll spend the next two days in the park travelling across different habitats in search of this reserve’s incredible birdlife!
Day 3 – Lake Victoria
On the morning of Day 3, we’ll hit the road as we travel north to the second largest freshwater lake in the world – Lake Victoria. On arrival, we’ll be doing some exceptionally birding. Africa’s largest lake is simply incredible and is teeming with birdlife, where the local riparian zone will be our major target.
Day 4 & 5 – Kakamega Forest Reserve
On the morning of Day 3, we’ll hit the road as we travel north to the second largest freshwater lake in the world – Lake Victoria (with several birding stop-overs). On arrival at midday, we’ll be doing some exceptionally birding. Africa’s largest lake is simply incredible and is teeming with birdlife, where the local riparian zone will be our major target.
Day 6, 7 & 8 – Lake Baringo & Lake Bogoria National Reserve (& departure to Nairobi)
Your time in Lake Baringo, will be very relaxing as you spend your time in truly one of the best birding locations this planet can offer. We’ll be walking around the scrubland and the cliffs surrounding the lake, and we’ll also be taking you on a boat ride onto the lake in search of waterbirds.
On the morning Day 8, our last day on tour, we’ll drive south to Lake Bogoria National Reserve. Lake Bogoria is a volcanic soda lake, where the hot springs are a local attraction. However, it’s also a local attraction to birdlife where they are found in huge quantities, especially the Lesser Flamingos, which can be found in their thousands. After we’ve had lunch, at the hot springs whilst enjoying the birds around us we’ll hit the road as we head back to Nairobi.
